The Walk With Ease is a 6-week walking program that can easily be an excellent starting point for a new wellness program. Walk With Ease is the only walking program identified as arthritis-appropriate and evidence-based by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Walk With Ease has been proven effective in increasing balance, reducing pain, improving mental health, flexibility and overall physical health.

How does it work?

Walk With Ease is conducted as a group led by a certified leader. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that includes health education, strengthening and stretching exercises, and motivational strategies.

The program is broken down into two components; a lecture session and a 30 minute walk. Participants learn about joint care and managing pain related to joint care issues. The 30 minute walk includes learning stretching, warm up and basic exercise techniques. Weather permitting, the walks will be conducted outside with the group leaving from the New Rochelle YMCA.

Who can participate?

The New Rochelle YMCA is proud to offer the Walk With Ease program for free to the community. Anyone can participate, whether or not they are diagnosed with arthritis. Program participants should feel comfortable with standing at least 10 minutes and committing to a 6 week program cycle, 3 days a week.

How much does the program cost?

Thanks to the support of New York State and the New York State Alliance of YMCAs we are able to offer this program for free to the community. Program participants commit to participating in the program for 6 weeks, attending all lectures and taking pre and post health evaluations.
