The Sailfish Swim Team is an inclusive age-group program for swimmers 6 to 18 years old. Our Swim Team is broken down into 6 teams; Stroke Development and Mechanics, Introduction to Competitive Swimming, Silver, Junior, Gold, and Senior Team. It's a year-round, co-ed team which practices out of the New Rochelle YMCA and competes out of Westchester and Tri-State area. The Sailfish belong to the local Metropolitan Swimming committee of USA Swimming, and also follow the meets and time standards of YMCA Swimming. This program focuses on swimming fundamentals, speed, competitive team spirit, technique, and a healthy lifestyle. Sailfish coaches are highly trained to nurture within a competitive environment, where participants grow as individuals, experience team spirit, and learn the importance of giving back to the community.
The life lessons of competitive swimming on a YMCA team are many. Swimmers are expected to be responsible, honest, safe, caring, and respectful - in swimming, at home, and at school. Y coaches are about swimmers in all aspects of life and want to see them reach their full potential. YMCA swimmers will learn to set goals and to push and challenge themselves, building self-confidence, fitness, and strength along the way. Equally important, they will have an opportunity to make friends and feel part of something bigger than themselves.
The Sailfish Swim Team encourages the commitment of all practices per week depending on each swimmer's group level. When enrollment is finalized for the season, specific practice days and times will be identified for each swimmer from those listed above.
